Last week saw the conclusion of Campbeltown Bowling Club’s 2022 Doon the Water pairs competition.

Twenty-two pairs battled it out during the week in a straight knockout competition leading to the semi-finals and final last Friday night.

The first semi-final saw Peter Colville and Steven Dickson versus Rhys Blair and Jimmy Anderson, which saw the pair of Colville and Dickson progress to the final in an extra end.

The second semi-final between Kevin Stone and Gavin Mclachlan snr and Jessie Andrew and Gary Anderson was just as close, also going to an extra end, with Andrew and Anderson winning the match.

The final between Colville and Dickson versus Andrew and Anderson was played over 10 ends.

It saw some great bowls but Colville and Dickson went out in front and maintained their lead until the end.

The prizes were presented by Kenny Blair of sponsor TA Blair Funeral Directors and his granddaughter Rhyia.

‘We would like to thank everyone involved in making the competition happen,’ said a club spokesperson. ‘And thanks to all who took part.

‘I would also like to thank TA Blair Funeral Directors for its more than generous sponsorship once again this year.’

Players were back in action on Sunday, for the Derek Good pairs.

After the round robin stage, two pairs emerged from the section to compete in a competitive final.

After six ends, the game was finely balanced at 10-10, resulting in an extra end in which the pairing of Jessie Andrew and Angus Brodie secured the winning shot over Keith Dickson and Johnnie McLean.

‘Congratulations to Jessie and Angus and well done to all who played on a rain soaked day,’ said the spokesperson.
