Sheriff Patrick Hughes called for Criminal Justice Social Work reports and a Restriction of Liberty Order Assessment to be carried out on a 46-year-old Campbeltown man, currently living in Calderbank.

The man, who cannot be named as it would identify his partner of 18 years, admitting assaulting and injuring her by punching her on the body; restraining her against a door and striking her on the head with his head.

The incident happened in their home in Campbeltown on the night of November 20 last year.

At the May sitting of the town’s sheriff court last week, procurator fiscal depute Mark Nicol said the incident happened after the man had been drinking heavily.

Sheriff Hughes said: ‘This is a serious matter and one where a custodial sentence would be justified.’

He called for reports to be prepared on the man and the case will call again at the June sitting of the court.
