Conditions were perfect for Dunaverty Golf Club’s gents’ Texas Scramble on Saturday, with 13 teams of three trying to record the lowest score of the day to take the trophy.

With the course prepared superbly by greenkeepers Jonathan Barbour and Campbell MacBrayne, low scoring was expected and all 13 teams produced some great golf to provide keen competition.

The team of Campbell MacBrayne, Grant Edmondson and Duncan Watson III proved too strong for the rest and returned a fantastic score of nett 52.5 to win by four shots, with the other 12 teams separated by less than three strokes.

‘Thanks to Rona Burton at The Tea Box for catering for the players and to all members for participating and making the competition one worth winning,’ said a club spokesperson.

Result: 1 Campbell MacBrayne, Grant Edmondson and Duncan Watson III 57-4.5=52.5, 2 Brian Deans, Ryan Deans and Stuart Crossan 65-8.2=56.8 (best last six), 3 Alex Arkell, Jim Williamson and Stevie Garrett 63-6.2=56.8, 4 Donald Brown (Southend), Sandy Watson and Andrew Barbour 63-6.1=56.9, 5 John Marrison, Danny Halliday and David MacBrayne 64-7.0=57.0, 6 Harry MacLean, Neil Barlow and Jim Hartsell 64-6.2=57.8.
