Standing as an independent candidate

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify my position regarding the forthcoming council election.

After 20 years in office, my position has somewhat changed, as was well documented in the Campbeltown Courier in October 2021.

Despite myself and numerous constituents querying the decision taken, a satisfactory explanation has still not been provided.

As readers will know, I always stand up for my local community at every turn and put South Kintyre first, rather than toeing the party line, when council decisions are made.

I am of the opinion that this is the reason for the decision that was taken last year. I fully believe that local elections should not be about party politics and I have not and will not ever be a puppet for any political party.

I am therefore standing at this election as an independent candidate.

I have worked tirelessly to support and advocate for the community of South Kintyre over the last 20 years.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in the past and respectfully request that you consider voting for me on May 5 so that I may have the opportunity to continue to represent you to the very best of my ability.

Please note, due to current widespread and high level of Covid-19 affecting our community, I have taken the decision not to carry out door-to-door canvassing in the upcoming election.

I have canvassed door-to-door in every election since 2001, however, on this occasion, I feel it would be irresponsible to do so given the current situation.

As always, please feel free to contact me should you wish any further information. Email: Donald.kelly2@argyll-bute.gov.uk. Mobile: 07977 327751.

Councillor Donald Kelly (Argyll First), South Kintyre ward.

Putting my constituents first

In the council elections on May 5 I will be seeking re-election to the council as your independent candidate for the Kintyre and the Islands ward.

It is my firm belief that party politics at local level should not be important. What is important is having a strong local councillor who will help out his constituents and work day-in and day-out for our local area.

With your support, I hope to continue to represent the Kintyre and the Islands ward.

I am an Islay resident and have lived there my whole life with my family, many of whom work locally in the NHS and in farming, crofting, fishing and distillery sectors.

I will always put my local constituents first, above any political party or special interest group. I have spent the past five years working for every corner of the Kintyre and the Islands ward.

If you have a problem that you need help with, no matter if it’s a big or small issue, then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I give the people of the Kintyre and the Islands ward my promise that I will work day-in and day-out for you.

Councillor Alastair Redman, Kintyre and the Islands ward.
