Campbeltown is to be illuminated in a festive glow when the town’s Christmas lights are switched on at 7pm tonight (Friday).
For the second year running, the Christmas lights committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the parade which usually precedes the switch-on because of safety concerns amid the Covid pandemic.
Those planning to watch the switch-on from the street are asked to be mindful of social distancing and be extra careful as the street lights may be off for a short time.
For those unable to attend, the event will be live-streamed on the @CampbeltownChristmasLights Facebook page.
‘We are so sorry but we hope everyone understands our thinking,’ said a committee spokesperson. ‘The safety of the community far outweighs the parade.
‘Thank you to everyone for their continued support.’
