Following two successful trials, Campbeltown Pupils 2007s (U15s) goalkeeper Imogen Todd has landed a top position in a regional Scottish football squad.

The Campbeltown Grammar School pupil will receive coaching and will form the nucleus of the first team of the Scottish Schools’ Football Association West Regional squad which will play inter-area matches during season 2021/2022.

It is believed that Imogen is the first girl from Campbeltown ever to be selected, and possibly the first player since 1986.

Campbeltown Pupils 2007s coach and Campbeltown and District Juvenile Football Association (CDJFA) chairman Rhys Blair said: ‘I am immensely proud of Imogen. She is a valued member of the U15 age group and I am gutted that this is Imogen’s last season with the youth team as she is a very talented goalkeeper.’

CDJFA secretary Claire Mitchell, who nominated Imogen for the opportunity, said: ‘I am absolutely delighted for Imogen and I believe this is just the beginning for her.

‘I have been aware for sometime that this is Imogen’s last season playing with Campbeltown Pupils U15 and I knew we had to do something to get her talent recognised as things couldn’t end there for her.

‘When I heard about the trials, I knew this was the first step for Imogen and I knew she could do it.

‘We wish Imogen all the best; we know she will do brilliantly but, most importantly, we want her to have fun.’

Imogen’s parents Rosemary and Robert added: ‘We are are extremely proud of Imogen, she deserves this and more. She has always kept her feet firmly on the ground. Keep being you, Imogen!’

Imogen thanked everyone for all their support and comments on her success and Claire for nominating her.

The West Regional team will be taking part in an inter-district tournament at Toryglen Regional Football Centre, Glasgow, next Friday, November 26, with a 2.10pm kick-off.
