A dry mild day with a light breeze helped some Dunaverty Golf Club members post excellent scores as they competed for the club’s October Medal.

Lee Mathieson, first man out, took full advantage of the conditions to record the lowest gross score of the day.

He completed the first nine in 32 strokes which included three birdies and one bogey.

Despite having a double bogey at the 12th and a bogey at the 13th, two birdies on the way back helped him to 36 strokes.

Donald MacNeil was next best, concluding his round in 70 strokes, having had two bogies on the front and back nines.

James Finlay, out in the sixth group, set a nett target of 61 for those following him to chase.

Match secretary Alex Arkell responded in exemplary fashion by not only posting the third lowest gross score of 72 but also taking the lead from James with a winning nett 59.

Result: 1 Alex Arkell 72-13=59; 2 James Finlay 81-20=61; 3 John Dreghorn 74-10=64;  4 Lee Mathieson 68-2=66 (bih); 5 Bill Brannigan 79-13=66; 6 Sandy Watson 75-8=67.
