During her family’s annual holiday to Machrihanish in August, a Cheshire woman came across an ‘amazing’ mermaid sand sculpture on the beach.

‘It was as though she had been ‘washed up’ on the shore,’ said Hilda Edge, whose mother was born and bred in Campbeltown. ‘We’ve no idea who did it but it was obviously by someone very talented. It is such a pity she will have disappeared back into the sea.’
