Caledonian Marts Ltd sold 121 cattle comprising 41 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, and 58 OTM cattle and 22 calves and stirks on Thursday September 2.

Prime heifers averaged 255p at 590kg and sold to 272ppkg for a Limousin from M Orr & Sons, Penston, Macmerry, purchased by C Imrie, Torrance, and to £1,756 for a Charolais from DS & RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill, purchased by H A Black & Sons, Butchers, Stirling.

Prime bullocks averaged 234p at 644kg and sold to 265ppkg for a Limousin from A Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie, purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk, and to £1,697 for a Limousin from T H Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, again purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk.

Also forward were 58 OTM cattle which averaged 149ppkg selling to 179ppkg for a Limousin from D McLaughlin, Ballabeg, Port of Menteith, and to £1,300 for the same beast.

Dairy cows sold to 135ppkg from A Barbour, Dalrioch, Campbeltown, and to £1,080 from the same home.

Calves met a strong trade, with bullocks averaging £554 per head. Heifers averaged £468 per head.

Buyers came from far and wide and many went home empty handed; more calves are required every fortnight.

Bullocks sold to £600 for a Luing Calf from Luss Estates, Loch Lomond. Heifers sold to £560 for a Saler from C Imrie, Alton, Torrance.
