Dunaverty Golf Club members recently took part in the mixed pairs event.
Normally held as a knock-out competition spread over several weeks, it was decided last year that a one-day event, due to Covid, would be tried and this proved so popular it will now be a permanent fixture.
Played in a Texas Scramble format, where each player must have six drives each, some excellent scores were recorded.
The top two teams were out together and a ding-dong battle soon developed.
Ailie MacBrayne and Robin Finlay, with seven threes on their card, reached the turn in 30 strokes, while playing companions Linda Brannigan and Sandy Watson replied with a 33.
The inward half was just as close with the Brannigan/Watson duo having six threes on their card, reaching the 18th in 31 strokes to the MacBrayne/Finlay pair’s 33.
Both teams carded nett 59s, but Linda and Sandy got the top spot by a better inward half.
The next three teams were all on nett 64s and better inward halves decided their places.
Due to a computer glitch, match secretary Alex Arkle had the unenviable job of working out the results manually as this involved determining the handicap percentages for each team.
Result: 1 Sandy Watson and Linda Brannigan 59 (bih); 2 Robin Finlay and Ailie MacBrayne 59; 3 David MacBrayne and Inez Ronald 64 (bih); 4 Peter Paterson and Linn Coffield 64 (bih); 5 Robert Coffield and Mairi MacMillan 64; 6 Don Hardman and Moyra Jane Paterson 65.
