Players had to get their thinking caps on as they navigated Dunaverty Golf Club’s 18 holes using only four clubs during last Saturday’s competition.

Some golfers did exceptionally well; one player was seen using his driver as a putter which worked for him.

The top six scores all came from those in the morning session. Donald Brown (Southend), out in the first group, had a fantastic round, using a driver, five iron, nine iron and putter.

He reached the turn in 40 strokes and even with three bogies on the inward half he posted an excellent 36 to finish on an unbeatable nett total of 57.

John Marrison had his best round of the year by carding the lowest scratch score of the day with a 74 and took second place with a nett 60.

Result: 1 Donald Brown (Southend) 76-19=57, 2 John Marrison 74-14=60, 3 Dougie Graham 78-17=61, 4 Bill Brannigan 76-14=62, 5 Graeme McLennan 84-21=63 (bih), 6 Steve Garrett 75-12=63.
