After a dull start, the sun came out to make it a very pleasant day for Dunaverty Golf Club’s annual Texas Scramble last Saturday.
Each member of 14 three-man teams was permitted to have four drives. With a 15 per cent allowance of their combined handicap, this led to close team scores.
Best of the day was Neil Brodie’s team of Don Hardman and Peter Paterson whose score of 59, less a handicap, gave them the winning total on a better inward half of 53.
Result: 1 Neil Brodie, Don Hardman, Peter Paterson 29+30=59-6=53(bih); 2 Robert McGarrie, Daniel Sargent, David McGeachy 29+33=62-9=53; 3 Bobby Dalziel, Kieran McGeachy, Richard Toner 54 (bih); 4 John Marrison, David MacBrayne, Jake MacMillan 29+32=61-7=54.
The club’s ladies were also in action on Saturday, on what felt to them like the first real day of summer.
With the course in excellent condition, 19 ladies took part in the Centenary Trophy competition.
An early player home was Linda Brannigan with a score of nett 63.
Despite a real challenge by Elizabeth Marrison and Margaret MacFarlane, Linda held her lead.
Results: 1 Linda Brannigan nett 63, 2 Elizabeth Marrison nett 64, 3 Margaret MacFarlane nett 66 (bih).
