More than 150 golfers teed off when the first of Machrihanish Golf Club’s open competitions was held last Saturday.

Although it stayed dry, competitors experienced cold and breezy conditions as they took part in the club’s Charity Open, played this year to boost funds for Macmillan Cancer Support; the amount raised was £2,883.

A club spokesperson said: ‘It was great to see the course and clubhouse so busy, with visitors able to travel from further afield now that restrictions have lifted. A great day was had by all.’

Results: Gents: 1 Graham McMillan, 2 Cameron Reid, 3 Eric Dunlea, 4 Robert McCallum. 65+: Robert McGougan. Ladies: 1 Jennifer Gilchrist, 2 Lorna Ralston.
