A woman frustrated by the amount of dog mess left in one of Kintyre’s most scenic areas has created a sign to encourage people to pick up after their pets.

Donna Roberson, who has spent lockdown at home in Campbeltown, erected a sign on the path at Machrihanish Dunes which leads to Westport beach that reads: ‘If your dog poops, you scoop’.

It also features a ‘poop emoji’ and some paw prints.

Donna said: ‘I was annoyed by the amount of dog poo on the pathway. I thought a bit of humour would encourage people to pick up after their pooches.’

It comes after Argyll and Bute Council’s leader said it was time for the authority to ‘show it means business’ in tackling the ‘never-ending problem’ of dog fouling across the area.

Councillor Robin Currie said he wanted to see irresponsible dog owners charged or ‘hit in the pocket’ if they are seen failing to clean up after their pet.
