Clachan-based West Kintyre Promotions (WKP) has received an award from UnLtd, the UK’s foundation for social entrepreneurs.

The award’s funding and tailored business support will significantly help WKP to widen the positive social impact for the West Kintyre and broader Kintyre community.

Following on from their work with Clachan Village Hall Development Fund, the team at WKP wanted to broaden their scope and bring bigger and better events to Kintyre while keeping ticket prices down.

They are also keen to work with local groups to bring events into the smaller villages throughout Kintyre.

A spokesperson for the group said: ‘Through bringing people together to enjoy social events, we believe we can have a positive social and wellbeing impact on the area.

‘Already secured are performances from the brilliant Eddi Reader and The McDougalls in Tarbert in 2020 as well as a fantastic magic and illusion show by Scotland’s premier magician Billy Reid.

‘We have also tied up artists for a special show in Tarbert Village Hall in September as part of Tarbert Music Festival.

‘As part of our inclusion and bringing people together remit, we have secured the brilliant McDougalls to perform their special Go Global show in Whitehouse Hall on January 24 and that show is open and free to school groups. So if you want your school to benefit and enjoy a winter warmer show then get in touch!#

Nas Morley, UnLtd’s director of Partnerships and Influence, underlined the timely importance of the expertise and support on offer and said: ‘I’m constantly amazed by the ideas social entrepreneurs have, especially as we welcome our latest cohort of award winners.

‘Social entrepreneurs are true alchemists, taking society’s urgent problems and their lived experience and making innovative gold to share with their communities and beyond. This cohort represents that perfectly, and their unique alchemy is increasingly necessary in these trying and unpredictable times.

‘To help our award-winners create long-term success and impact, we give them with the tailored expertise, funding, and support networks they need. While I can’t predict the future, I can confidently say it will be a brighter one with the contribution these award-winners will make to the lives of many and the society we live in.’

Lesley from WKP said: ‘We are grateful to UnLtd for their support, we believe passionately in what we are doing and the whole package of support, not just financial, on offer from UnLtd is first class. We are excited to be working with them on our journey.’

UnLtd is currently working hard with partners from both the public and private sectors to deliver social impact by harnessing the huge potential of social entrepreneurs to solve society’s biggest challenges. The organisation is focused on three big impact areas: resilient communities, employability, and solutions for an ageing society.
