As part of the National Digital Health Fest last week Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP)’s Technology Enabled Care (TEC) team hosted events across Argyll and Bute to showcase the innovative digital healthcare technology available.
Aileen McCheyne, a TEC outreach health worker based in Kintyre, welcomed health and social care staff and members of the community to the information and demo stand, set up in Campbeltown Hospital last Friday to help inform people about TEC services and systems.
There is a variety of technological solutions for telecare and home health monitoring and these were all on show. Telecare basic and enhanced packages, Home Health Monitoring, Florence, Activity Monitoring solutions, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and attend Anywhere/NHS Near me video consultations.
The HSCP recognises the potential of these digital solutions to transform the way people engage with, take ownership of, and control their own healthcare, empowering them to self-manage their own care in a way that is right for them and in their own home.
Debbie Holroyd TEC coordinator said: ‘The Argyll and Bute TEC team offers a wide range of systems and services that encourage the use of technology and devices such as personal alarms, monitoring services and wearable devices.
‘The technology-based solutions are helping to build on care at home and community services to improve health for patients with conditions such as COPD, diabetes and heart conditions.
‘During Digital Health week, I attended the Annual Digital and Health Care Conference in Glasgow, and was really excited to learn about new innovations in digital health both nationally and globally.’
The advancement in digital technology is giving many people of all ages more choice to manage their own health conditions and helping to keep people living safer and independently in their own homes for longer.
TEC includes Beating the Blues, which is computerised cognitive behaviour therapy for the treatment of low to moderate anxiety; the service can be accessed through your GP.
NHS Near Me is a video consulting service for outpatient appointments, in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. A programme of NHS Near Me is being introduced across Argyll and Bute, reducing the need for patients to travel to Glasgow and other hospitals.
The Home Pod service enables people to be monitored for health changes from their home, making it possible for those with long term conditions to have less frequent unplanned contact with health services. This service is only available to people with certain long term conditions.
Flo is a text messaging system that allows people to monitor their conditions at home through their mobile phone. It also sends patients prompts and health tips tailored to their individual needs.
The Telecare Service is a 24-hour, 365 days-a-year service, which involves the provision of a telephone link between the base unit in your home and the monitoring centre.
Should you press the button on your pendant or unit, or a sensor be activated, a message is sent to the monitoring centre where trained operators take the most appropriate action, whether it be contacting a family member, neighbour, doctor, the emergency services or responder service.
