Recently I received a telephone call shown on caller display as being from 01586 552846.

A recorded message said it was Ofcom and that my broadband was carrying out illegal activities and would be switched off within 24 hours, and to press one to connect with BT.

By strange coincidence my sister, who has a 01583 area code, received the same call which, according to her caller display, came from an 01583 431664.

This is obviously a scam – do not press one if you get a similar call.

This has been reported to both the police and BT.
