Cows from Glencraigs and Eden farms were among those leading the prices at Caledonian Marts Ltd’s fortnightly sale on Monday.

The auction house had forward 287 store cattle and 2,796 sheep at the Stirling sale.

Bullocks sold to 209p for a pen of Shorthorn’s from W Erskine, Woodcockdale, Linlithgow and to £1,100 for a pen of Simmental X from Balbirnie Home Farm, Pitillock, Freuchie.

Heifers sold to 216p for a pen of Charolais from J and D Mitchell, Offers, Gargunnock, and to £1,100 again for a Simmental X from Balbirnie Home Farm.

Other leading prices were as follows: Bullocks per head: £1,090, Glencraigs, Campbeltown; £1,050, Balbirnie Home Farm; £1,040, Ardgate; £1,030, Balbirnie Home Farm. Heifers per head: £1,030, Balbirnie Home Farm; £970, Glencraigs; £860 Eden, Campbeltown, and Glencraigs, Campbeltown; £830 Mossywood and Eden, Campbeltown.

Also forward were 2,796 store lambs and feeding ewes. Due to the unsettled weather conditions, all classes of lambs were 2kg to 3kg lighter than previous sales, resulting in an overall drop in averages by £2 to £3; many short-keep lambs are still selling between £60 and 70.

Top price of the day went to C Hastie, Easter Gartfarran for a pen of Texel Lambs at £72.
