A pastor and his wife who spent their first decade of married life on the ocean wave are moving to Campbeltown.
In April Campbeltown Community Church will welcome Mark Jasper, a former superyacht captain, as its new pastor.
Since 2011, Mark has been an assistant pastor in an English-speaking church in Mallorca, Spain.
Before pastoral ministry, Mark served in the Royal Navy, leaving in 1999 to work as a captain in the superyacht industry.
Lizzie, his wife, trained and worked as a maths teacher but was persuaded to become a seafarer after they married 19 years ago.
They spent the first 10 years of married life working at sea travelling between the Eastern Mediterranean and the Caribbean before the arrival of their daughter Hannah Molly, 8.
Whilst based at Faslane, Mark knew Campbeltown as a welcome port of call and replenishment on naval exercises.
He first introduced Lizzie to the Wee Toon when they sailed in together on a small yacht in 1999.
Mark said: ‘The family is very much looking forward to serving the church here in Campbeltown and making this beautiful town our home.’
Church secretary, Emily Walker said: ‘We are really excited about the future ministry of our church under the leadership of Mark, and we look forward to welcoming him and his family to our church and to the community.’
There will be an induction service on Saturday April 6 at 2 pm in the town hall.
