The work of Scottish nature photographer Laurie Campbell has featured occasionally in the Courier.

This photograph, of a Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) female with newly hatched cygnet, was one of three images promoted this week by Scottish Natural Heritage to mark Mother’s Day in the animal kingdom.

More than three decades ago, Mr Campbell told his photography course lecturers he intended to bypass the lucrative world of advertising photography.

When he said he would concentrate on nature they laughed. In the 21st century there is much demand for a patient nature specialist prepared to go the extra mile for award-winning photography.
