A social media post appealing to owners to pick up after their dogs has attracted much support.

Last Thursday, on Facebook’s page The Wee Toon Community Noticeboard, William Crossan wrote: ‘To dog owners who walk their dog(s) on the Quarry Green, along Kilkerran Road: “Please make sure you pick up its plop and not just leave it lying there.”

‘This area has become appalling with the amount of doggy do just left behind by feckless owners.

‘It’s the worst I’ve ever seen it in nearly 20 years walking my own dogs there.

‘For goodness sake show some common decency and pick up after your dog.’

Maryflora Macphail agreed: ‘It’s a disgrace as a dog walker myself I’m disgusted with the mess of such a lovely spot.’

Bobbiemarie Stalker added: ‘Also along Long-Row it’s everywhere and it’s disgusting, if you can’t pick up after your dog you shouldn’t have one.’

Stuart Lawson commented: ‘I think the council need to put covert CCTV around the worst places in town to catch the culprits.’

Donna McCrimmon said: ‘It’s the everywhere near Dalintober School I can’t believe people leave it.’

Lisa Nicolson said: ‘There is not one single environmental enforcement officer, in other words dog warden in the whole of Argyll and Bute either.

‘No deterrent for these ignorant folk.’

Karen Mcgougan added: ‘Its actually getting really bad,I can understand that not always possible to get every bit but the sxxt I see on way down to Tesco could easily be picked up.

‘I went over one day and picked it up as I was disgusted at how much there was but it was as bad as ever the next couple of days so don’t know why I bothered plus I don’t have a dog.

‘I see mums walk down there every day with kids and buggies and I dread they stand on it or push a pram through it.

‘Something definitely needs to be done.’

Dog owner, Andrew Rathey agreed and said: ‘As responsible dog owners we fully agree with all the sentiments expressed here.

‘You wouldn’t let your child sxxt in the street so why would it be okay for a furry child, clear it up sensibly and keep the Wee Toon smart.

Laura Kennedy added:  ‘We went a walk along to the middle beach on Sunday.

‘I was shocked at the mess right along the grass leading to the beach.

‘No excuse there’s bags and bins right there for people to use.’

BBC education correspondent Jamie McIvor added: ‘Is it just me or does C’town seem to have a particular problem?

‘A few careless or irresponsible people making things unpleasant for everyone else?

‘I’ve always noticed that there seems to be more dog mess in the town than in many other places.’

Arlene Mustarde said: ‘In West Dunbartonshire we get free doggy poo bags.

‘We walk our dog in Levengrove Park and we don’t have a problem.

‘Does Argyll and Bute Council not provide poo bags?’
