From Sunday March 10 for four nights, the area at the traffic lights on the A83 Rest and Be Thankful is to be resurfaced.

I have received notification of the closure and the usual detour via Crianlarich being forced on Argyll residents.

This is totally unacceptable. The Old Military Road diversion can be used but BEAR supported by Transport Scotland will not do so because this closure is not because of a landslide.

I believe any closure of the A83 is an emergency in Argyll and alternative routes such as the Old Military road should be used.

Our MSP Michael Russell has been supportive and vociferous on behalf of his constituents arguing the same.

Could you print this letter in the Courier, with the email address of the secretary of transport and transport minister, to allow the residents of Argyll and Bute to send their response to this ridiculous proposal.

I have also copied in our community councils and urge them to distribute the email addresses and send in their objections to this proposal.

The email addresses are: TSS@transport.gov.scot and CabSecTIC@gov.scot

Councillor Douglas Philand, Argyll and Bute First: Time for Change, Oriago, 32 Fernoch Crescent, Lochgilphead.
