A Bearsden boy whose family has holidayed for years at West Kintyre’s Point Sands won STV’s Strictly Kids with his dance partner.
Sponsored by Point Sands for the STV Children’s Appeal charity, Jayden Da Silva, 7, and Hazel Craig, were selected from thousands of applicants, reduced to 100s lucky enough to audition.
Those 100s were cut to 40 children selected as Strictly Kids in the first ever Strictly event organised by BlueStar Productions, for the STV Children’s Appeal.
Part of that show will be previewed on STV, at 8pm this Sunday.
Last March Jayden’s mother, Leesa Da Silva, applied for what she thought was a day of fun.
Mrs Da Silva said: ‘Jayden has never danced before, he loves to join in and when asked if he wanted to take part in the event he replied: “Of course, I may help other boys and girls so their mummies and daddies stay with them if they are in hospital or give another child a nice day out.”
‘We had no idea that he had grasped the reason or understood why this money was needed so desperately.
‘To our amazement Jayden was chosen and our Strictly Kids journey began.’
Jayden chose to dance the rock and roll jive with Hazel.
He said the perfect song, that all the mummies and his aunties will love, is Tina Turner, Proud Mary.
Jayden practiced hard and also assisted his school at a day of dance to raise funds and started a Just Giving page.
Mrs Da Silva said: ‘Point Sands has been a huge part of our family for years.
‘Our side of the family all come from Tarbert.
‘The holiday park, near Tayinloan, is the perfect, peaceful getaway needed for hardworking families.
On Sunday December 9 at the Hilton Doubletree Jayden danced his socks off and nearly his trousers too as he had been poorly all week and lost a lot of weight.
The Strictly judges gave him and Hazel 10/10 to lift the Strictly Kids Junior title.
The event was filmed by STV and will be shown on the STV children’s appeal.
