By Mark Davey
A dramatic evening is promised when the author of a dark psychological tale visits Campbeltown.
In the free library event next Tuesday, poet, Michael J Malone, author of After He Died, set in Argyll and Glasgow and published in September, will talk about his career to date, from 7pm to 9pm.
In addition he will perform some poems, and discuss the themes of grief and social exclusion explored by the book.
Publicity for the novel states: ‘You need to know who your husband really was…’
It continues: ‘When Paula Gadd’s husband of almost thirty years dies, just days away from the seventh anniversary of their son, Christopher’s death, her world falls apart.
‘Grieving and bereft, she is stunned when a young woman approaches her at the funeral service, and slips something into her pocket. A note suggesting that Paula’s husband was not all that he seemed…’
The theme of someone being ‘not all that they seem’ will be familiar to readers of another Malone novel: A Suitable Lie, which features a feisty but mysterious girlfriend.
Malone a former publishing sales manager, for Scotland and North England, with more than 200 published poems and six novels, has judged and critiqued countless poetry, short story and novel competitions.
He is a regular speaker and chair at book festivals throughout the UK– including Aye Write, Bloody Scotland, Crimefest and Wigtown.
During November he has a busy schedule of appearances including Waterstones’ Byres Road store with Douglas Skelton and Matt Bendoris, Doune, Kirkcudbright and Newton Mearns libraries.
In December, at Duntocher, he hosts a Meet the Authors day with Emma Clapperton.
Tuesday’s talk is billed as a free ticketed event. To book call the library on 01586 555435 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
