Caledonian Marts had forward 596 suckled calves and store cattle at its fortnightly sale on Monday.

Bullocks averaged 202p selling to 272p for a Charolais from J McLaren, Murrayshall, Cambusbarron, and to £1,220 for Limousins from R Colquhoun, Barochan Cross, Houston.

Heifers averaged 184p selling to 312p for a Limousin from B Harper, Greenwells, California, and to £1,150 for Limousins from Messrs McFarlane, Addiewell, West Calder.

Black and white bullocks averaged 146p selling to 160p from T Drummond, Low Barbeth, Ervie, and to £700 from the same home.

Also sold were 2,152 store lambs and feeding ewes.

All classes of store lambs in general were sharper on the week, selling to a top of £68 for a pen of Suffolk X Lambs from I O Warren, Coull, Isle of Islay.

All ewes were keenly bid for, and would be slightly dearer on the week.

Bullocks per kg: 267p Greenwells (x2); 253p Murrayshall and Robertsonlane; 246p Craighead; 242p Bankier House & Greenwells; 240p Robertsonlane. Heifers per kg: 279p Greenwells; 226p Auchmuir; 210p Craighead; 208p Auchmuir and Alton Muirhouse. Black and whites per head: £620 Knocknain; £600 Low Barbeth; £580 Merslaugh.
