Bullying and intimidation allegations concerning NHS Highland have surfaced in a letter sent to a daily paper by a group of doctors.

The doctors from the Riverside Medical Practice in Ness Walk, Inverness, have claimed there is a culture of bullying at the health board, which runs all hospital services in Argyll and Bute.

Scottish Labour’s shadow health minister David Stewart said: ‘I am extremely concerned and will be calling for a full and frank independent investigation into these allegations, carried out by senior staff from another health authority.

‘I will also be asking for an urgent meeting with Elaine Mead and David Alston as these claims are unprecedented in my experience of NHS Highland.

‘I will contact the Scottish Health Secretary to see what action she plans to take.

‘Bullying and intimidation have no place in our health service. The public expect transparency and honesty from their health boards.’
