Dunaverty’s July Open was plagued by torrential showers until midday.
In order for the games to continue, the greenkeeper had to intervene by clearing rainfall from the 14th green.
Despite the weather, 80 men and 23 ladies braved the elements and some excellent scores were recorded.
The scores were very close in both the men’s and ladies handicap sections, with winners being decided on the last six holes in each section.
Margaret MacKinnon from Lochgilphead, was ladies handicap winner by virtue of a better last six holes from Carradale’s Lynsay McGeachy.
Fergus Wallace(Pollock GC) by the same margin from Dunaverty’s Robert Coffield took the men’s title.
George MacMillan had an exceptional round of 62 to claim the men’s scratch section.
A first class round of 75 by Dunaverty’s Ailie MacBrayne left her two shots clear of Jennifer Mack to win the ladies scratch title.
Captain John Marrison paid tribute to greenkeepers David Scullion and Robert Irvine for the superb condition of the course in spite of the recent weather conditions.
He thanked the competitors for attending, regardless of the extreme weather conditions and especially those who had travelled a long distance for the event.
Club steward Will Anderson and staff catered for the event, while match secretary Alex Arkell and David MacBrayne were responsible for maintaining an organised game.
