Fresh from his European championships win in Forres Campbeltown’s Liam Renton took the Scottish drum major title.

Last weekend high winds made it especially challenging for the drum majors but Liam rose to the occasion and put in a well planned and executed performance to claim the prize.

It was his 2nd major at the Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Levengrove Park, Dumbarton

Liam said: ‘Conditions wise, it was the most difficult final in which I have ever competed, and credit goes to all the drum majors, especially the children for having a go in more than 20 mph winds.’

Liam’s girlfriend Fiona Mitchell, pipe major of Kintyre Schools Novice Juvenile Pipe Band led them to a 6th place and Julie Blue’s Beinn in Tuirc Kintyre Pipe Band managed a respectable 9th in Grade 3A.

The next major competition in the RSPBA calendar is the World Championships on August 18 at Glasgow Green.
