A party of Dunaverty’s Heidbangers may have thought they were in the sahara when they played Carradale in blistering sunshine.
The course, which had been well prepared by greenkeeper Robert Strang, proved to be quite a challenge over the two rounds.
Danny Halliday, playing in a freshening breeze which alleviated the heat, led after the first nine with 18 points, one clear of Sandy Watson, Bruce Robertson and Willie Young.
After an ‘excellent’ lunch, prepared by Cheryl Strang, the intrepid party set off to conquer the second nine.
Mark Eagers took the lead in this round, with 20 points, for a total of 32, and Sandy Watson matched this total.
Danny faltered a bit in this second half and was overtaken by Willie Young who finished on 31 points.
A hidden pairs draw resulted in a win for Mark and Sandy closely followed by Danny and Willie.
Results: 1 Mark Eagers 32 (bih), 2 Sandy Watson 32, 3 Willie Young 31, 4 Bruce Robertson 30, 5 Danny Halliday 29.
Hidden pairs: 1 Mark Eagers and Sandy Watson 32+32=64, 2 Willie Young and Danny Halliday 31+29=60.
