The lights went out at some Campbeltown businesses including Bank of Scotland on Thursday morning.

Heat and light abruptly vanished at 11.11am, in some Longrow South premises, returned intermittently from about 11.45am and appeared to be fully restored by 12.15pm.

The power cut hit 50 customers but in some instances one premises was in darkness while its next door neighbour was unaffected.

A Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks spokesperson said: ‘We would like to apologise to all of those affected by the interruption to the supplies in Campbeltown.

‘Our engineers are on site investigating the cause.’
