Gym addicts pumped iron for a day and a night to raise more than £1,500 for the Nancy Glen families.
The Wee Toon Warriors 24-hour workout, organised by owners Fiona and Stanley Irwin, at their MACC base gym saw equipment pounded hard non-stop from 6pm last Friday and until the same time on Saturday evening.
Teams of four, who paid an entry fee of £10 per person, were allocated hour-long slots during the marathon workout.
There was a scorer and an unofficial competition to see which team could rack up the most kilometres between them on the rower, air bike, ski-erg and treadmill.
During the whole event, which was billed as a 24-hour vigil, tea lights spelling out the registration of Duncan MacDougall’s boat TT100 were kept burning.
An instructor was on hand at all times to look after the participants welfare by means of hydration and nutrition.
Participants entered through a form on Facebook and if they did not have a team were mixed and matched with other entrants.
In addition there was homebaking for sale, tea/coffee for spectators and well wishers, and a huge raffle with many prizes.
Among the raffle prizes was a cake iced with tiny dumbells.
Commenting on Facebook, Fiona Irwin wrote: ‘Too tired to do the ‘final post’ as not been to bed since Thursday, but want the numbers out there.
‘We completely smashed the 24-hour vigil.’
‘We worked harder than we imagined we could and during the 24 hours travelled in excess of 1,100km.’
Catherine Reid who entered as part of an all female team said: ‘What an awesome workout completing our hour for the 24-hour gym vigil.
‘Big thank you to Fiona Irwin and Stanley Irwin for organising the event.
‘Team GB…we’re available for the next Olympics!’
