A Clachan Calamities simple special effects pantomime scene, featuring the poisoning of an apple, rivals anything Disney could create.

Disney gave Grimm fairytale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Technicolour treatment back in 1937 but delightful as it is, unlike director Lesley Keen’s version, a trick or two were missed.

One element, a simple lighting show employing one light and some glasses, at Clachan, from Friday February 2 at 7pm, is just part of a production brimful of surprises.

The Courier was given a sneak look behind the scenes during rehearsal last Sunday as the tale of terror, suspense and comedy shifts into top gear. Many of the cast were able to see full costumes for the first time.

Everthing is sure not to go exactly to plan and as one cast member said: ‘With Arthur Duff writing the script anything can happen.’

Such as when Duff, playing an injured raven, exited stage right but was needed for a scene and could not be found which gave the dame a shot at being an injured raven.

There is a matinée on Saturday February 3 at 2pm and another evening performance that day at 7pm.

After its Clachan run the show transfers to Tarbert on March 3 at 7pm.
