A reader was so appalled by flytipping on the dunes at scenic Dunaverty beach he sent a picture to the Courier.

In response to the image, Councillor John Armour said: ‘I’m really disappointed to see this and would urge everyone to make use of the Roading Amenity site in Campbeltown to dump waste.’

An Argyll and Bute council spokesperson said: ‘This area is private land and it is the responsibility of the owner or occupier to act. We will make sure they are notified and work with them to identify the offender.

‘The fixed penalty notice for fly tipping is £200. If it is not paid, prosecution could result in a fine of up to £40,000.’

Fly tipping should be reported to the council on 01546 605514.’
