Top price of the day for store lambs and feeding ewes went to D McKendrick, No 5 Tomaig, Campbeltown for a pen of Suffolk lambs at £71, at a Caledonian Marts sale on Monday.

There were 670 store lambs and feeding ewes sold.

Short-keep lambs were keenly bid for with long-keep lambs again harder to cash.

Lambs per head: Suff: £69 Eorabus, Isle of Islay. Tex x: £69 No 5 Tomaig. Cont x: £69 Castlehill. Suff x: £67 No 5 Tomaig. BF: £54 No 5 Tomaig. BF ewe Las: £42 Immeroin. Texel ewes: £38 Alton of Bandeath.

Also on sale were 280 store cattle and suckled calves and 48 breeding cattle.

Bullocks averaged 229ppkg selling to 285p for a Charolais from J McLaren, Murrayshall, Cambusbarron, and to £1090 for Limousins from J Brownlie and Co, Inchgall, Lochgelly.

Heifers averaged 206ppkg selling to 245p for a Charolais from Craigievern, Balfron Station, and to £1010 for Limousins from A and M Gray, Craighead, Torrance.

Black and white bullocks averaged 154p selling to 160p from Massrs Paterson and Sons, Stenhouse, Kirkcaldy, and to £880 from T and W Stoddart, Garelwood, Lesmahagow.

Bullocks per head:£890 Lochend, £880 Murrayshall, £850 Glenside, £840 Torran and Murrayshall, £820 Ardgate and Glenside.

Bullocks per kilo: 283p and 278p Carloonan, 271p Murrayshall, 270.5p Craigievern, 268p Taylorton, 267.5p Carloonan.

Heifers per head: £1000 Hillhead, £950 (twice) and £900 Easterton, £900 Alton (Imrie), £840 Torran, £760 Murrayshall.

Heifers per kilo: 236p Murrayshall, 230p Taylorton, 228p Craigievern, 222p Craighead, 219.5p Taylorton.

Black and whites per head: £770 Stenhouse, £520 West Kirkland.

Also forward were 48 breeding cattle comprising cows and calves, in-calf cows and in-calf heifers.

Topping the sale was an in-calf Limousin cow at £1350 from Glenside Farms and a Simmental Cow at £1350 from A McKay, East Borland, Denny.
