A spirited entry by a Campbeltown distillery firm saw it shortlisted for an employer of the year award.

J&A Mitchell & Co Ltd which owns Springbank, Mitchell’s Glengyle distillery and the independent bottler William Cadenhead Ltd was nominated in the employer of the year small and medium sized enterprise category of the Business Insider Scotland awards.

The company employs more than 80 people, up from 59 in 2015, most of whom are from Campbeltown and the surrounding areas.

J&A Mitchell & Co Ltd was commended for the opportunities it gives employees to learn new skills and undertake management programs, amongst a host of other initiatives recognised by the judges.

Staff from throughout the company were in attendance at the awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Des Clarke in the Grand Central hotel in Glasgow.

A company spokesperson said: ‘While we missed out on the award itself, which went to the technology firm Dacoll Ltd, the company was delighted to have been shortlisted for the award in such a hotly-contested category.

‘Small-medium sized enterprises make up 99 per cent of businesses in Scotland, emphasising the achievement in reaching the final four in the category.’

HR director Linda McAulay, said: ‘It is nice that our commitment and dedication to our staff has been recognised in this way and the nomination will help to spur us on to continue to do the best we can for all of our employees.’
