Twelve survivors of Dunaverty golf club’s 2017 prize-giving blew away the cobwebs on the golf course.
They turned up the following day for the traditional and aptly-named ladies’ and gents’ Hiccup competition.
Due to the wet, dreary and very windy conditions, the unanimous decision was taken to attempt 12 holes using the first four, the 17th, teeing off from the fifth tee, and the 18th.
Controlling the ball in the stormy conditions became the key to winning.
After being coaxed to play, Sandy Watson mastered the weather, and his playing companions, to come out the winner with three birdies on his card, no mean feat in the conditions, and amassing 26 points, two clear of Robert Irvine.
Result: 1 Sandy Watson 26 points, 2 Robert Irvine 24, 3 Danny Halliday 24, 4 Malcolm Ronald 23 (better last two), 5 Linda Arkell 23 (bih), 6 John Brown 23.
