I have written this letter in the hope you will tell the people of Machrihanish that their village toilet will be closing soon, as Argyll and Bute Council plans major toilet closures in Kintyre, with Machrihanish and Southend on their list.

Machrihanish beach has won the Blue Flag award for the quality of the water around the beach and how clean it is.

One of the main reasons that the award was given was because of the toilets the village has.

So many people use them, including local people, Glasgow university’s surfing clubs and holiday-makers.

I cannot see the thinking behind closing the toilets when they serve so many people and we gain so much from them being there, and would be so much at a loss without them.

What a mess the council is making of Campbeltown and surrounding areas.

Name and address supplied.
