A couple of coppers beat the opposition to claim top prize in Machrihanish Dunes autumn pairs competition.

John Nutt and Jonathan Bruce took a thin blue line to the fairways and proved to be the finest in last Saturday’s match, scoring 42 Stableford points to conquer Christopher Jewels and Michael Smith by one point.

Third place with 40 points was Bruce Gibson and Euan Rankin, with Colin Brown and Phil Moran in fourth.

In the mixed teams division, Bengt and Marieanne Olsson scored 35 points to beat Neil McLeod and Carolyn Ball with 30 points.

Michael Smith and Ross Hendry took home closest to the pin honours on holes five and 12 respectively.

A club spokesperson said: ‘Thanks to all 75 participants for turning out on a challenging day with gusty winds and rainy spells.

‘The golf course was superbly presented by our greenkeeping staff and a special thank you to Lorna and Peter in the Golf House.’
