Next year’s Mull of Kintyre Music Festival will take place one week earlier than usual.
For 2018 only, the festival will run from August 8 to August 12, to avoid clashing with other major events in Scotland, in particular the World Pipe Band Championships and Piping Live! Festival.
Event manager Iain Johnston, of JIG Events, said: ‘We have held the last 25 festivals between the World Pipe Band Championships and Cowal Games which has always been the second last Saturday in August.
‘This year the World Pipe Band Championships and Piping Live! have moved forward a week to accommodate another event in Glasgow and after much discussion, the MOK Fest management committee has decided to swap the dates with these events.’
The organisers also wanted to ensure that festival stalwarts Kintyre Schools Pipe Band would be able to take attend.
Mr Johnson added: ‘We have looked at the festival calendar in Scotland and the weekend of August 8 – 12, at present, has no other large festivals and to ensure that Kintyre Schools Pipe Band could take part next year contributed towards the decision to move the date of next year’s event.
‘We also realise that many of the regular festival visitors like to plan their accommodation and travel arrangements well in advance so by making the decision now it will give everyone time to plan for next year.’
Organisers of Midfest also have plans in place for their second ever festival next year.
