Campbeltown drum major Liam Renton ended his season on a high with huge success at the Cowal games.

Mr Renton, currently Drum Major of Inveraray and District Pipe Band, has had a successful season this year being placed in all major championships.

This has culminated in him winning the famous Cowal Mace at the Cowal Highland Gathering on Saturday.

Proud mum Mhairi Renton said: ‘Although no longer having major status this is a very prestigious competition and Liam is delighted to have taken first place.

‘Former world champion drum major Iain Lang of Campbeltown, won this trophy in 1959 and 1961 and Liam has achieved much success using and adapting flourishes that were introduced by him and passed down over the years.

‘Thanks goes to the people of Campbeltown who offer a huge support to Liam and the bands throughout the season.’
