A Cowal man and his dog are the best herders in Kintyre.

Last Friday Stuart Davidson and Hope won Kintyre Sheepdog Trials’ Ian McDougall trophy for the best performance on the field at Clochkeil farm.

The trial, judged by Roddy McDiarmid from Cairndow, was packed with 55 dogs competing watched by other shepherds and a few groups of tourists.

A Kintyre Sheepdog Trials Association spokesperson said: ‘We would like to thank our main sponsors, P McKerral & Co for providing haulage, Andrew Smith & Son, D McNair & Son and Westwards Veterinary Practice.

‘Thanks also to all local businesses who provided donations for the raffle.

‘We would also like to give a big thank you to the ladies of the local branch of Cancer Research UK who ran the catering making a profit of £170 which will be donated to their charity.’
