An Oban rally driver and his Mull co-driver roared to victory in Machrihanish this afternoon.

En route to their win, Shaun Sinclair and Fred Maclean, sponsored by B Watson and Son Haulage, won virtually every stage, in their 2,000cc Subaru World Rally Car (WRC), making up for the disappointment of failing to finish last year.

More than 600 spectators braved Saturday’s persistent drizzle and at least the same crowd again, basked in Sunday’s sun to support the racing teams.

Sinclair, the owner of Sinclair Plant, speaking at the trophy presentation, said: ‘It is thanks to Fred who did what he had to do to put last year’s diaster behind us.’

‘It is a great rally, I am surprised there were not more cars attending this weekend.’
