A brave cohort of 31 athletes took on millions of midges in the third round of the South Kintyre Sports Council (SKSC) 5k handicap race.

Except for the pesky blighters conditions were ideal, for running, on an undulating course at Ballochgair. For marshals and time keepers it was a different affair as they endured an aerial bombardment.

A spokesperson said: ‘Campbeltown Running Club would like to thanks everyone who attended this evening.

‘Special thanks to our time keepers, marshals and bakers who provided post race treats which were very much appreciated. Without their help this event couldn’t take place.’

The race positions will be kept secret and will be announced at the SKSC Race Series prize giving in the autumn.
