I went through Campbeltown Grammar School a few years below Billy Irving, one of the Chennai Six imprisoned in India and I teach in a small additional support needs school, James Reid primary, in Saltcoats.
At school the pupils held a charity sale to support The Mission for Seafarers which raised £280. This has a link with Billy Irving as Yvonne McHugh, his fiancée has set up a Just Giving page to raise funds to support the campaign to release the men and any excess will go to the Mission.
The class is going to write letters to Billy and the men tomorrow, so that tell them the total of how much we raised.
I’m very proud of the pupils, who used and developed their skills to make sure the sale was a success. They have shown just how kind their hearts are for a cause that is so close to my own.
