The campaign to create a £1.8 million Kintyre Seasports centre is riding the crest of a wave after gaining charitable status.

A Seasports spokesperson said: ‘The process was not straightforward as the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator is not used to dealing with an application related to an association of 14 community groups.

‘We made it, and our thanks are due to TSI, Margaret Wallace and John Mactaggart for invaluable support in getting it done.

‘This is a major step forward and opens many funding doors that would otherwise be closed to us.

The trustees met yesterday to set up a members’ general meeting and conclude the formalities, following which we can open a bank account.’

There will be more about Kintyre Seasports next week.
