A hair salon owner’s novel approach to a break-in was head and shoulders above the usual wanted appeal.

Nicky MacDougall of Casa in Chalmers Street, Ardrishaig said the incident sickened her so much she had offered free haircuts for a year to anyone who witnessed anything unusual on Saturday May 13 between 9.30 and 10pm.

Ms MacDougall had appealed for anyone driving along the A83 Lochgilphead to Campbeltown at the time of the raid. She hoped that a dash camera may have picked up something which would help police identify the thief.

‘From my CCTV it is possible to see a tall dark-haired person but the quality is not good enough for finer details,’ said Ms MacDougall.

A spokesman for Lochgilphead police office said inquiries were completed on Thursday last week. A 33-year-old woman was arrested and charged with housebreaking with intent to steal.
