‘A STEEP learning curve’ was how a consultation day to try and save the town hall has been described. Claudia Albrecht, who has been employed as the community development worker by South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) to take forward the town hall project, said the all-day event held in the council chambers in the town was a steep learning curve for them all. ‘We got some very good feedback. I love constructive feedback as that will help me to do a better job,’ she said. Claudia’s post is funded by LEADER and Investing in Ideas and the post will last for six months. For more on the event see The Campbeltown Courier edition of October 28,2011 or on line at www.campbeltowncourier.co.uk/digital TO PREVENT the decline of a Kintyre village, locals have pulled together to set up a development trust. The residents of Clachan took the decision, after their school was faced with closure earlier this year, that the catchment area needed more job, more affordable housing and more young families with school age children to stop them losing their community. As a result of research a group of local volunteers has decided the best way forward is a development trust. A steering group has now been set up to take the trust forward and its aims include working with all members and organisations within the community to ascertain and collect ideas and views as to the regeneration of Clachan and its environs. It also aims to issue newsletters to keep the community informed of all its developments. It will be led by chairman Arthur Francis with six other residents on the steering group. Chairwoman of West Kintyre Community Council Elizabeth Ball praised the group and wished them goodluck at a recent meeting. ‘It is a very worthwhile project and I hope those who can help them will do to the best of their ability. Very good luck to you all and well done for getting started so quickly after the battle with the schools,’ said Elizabeth. | ||||
