WORK will begin on Dunglass Bridge, Southend before the end of the month.
And the residents who face a lengthy detour after it was washed away by floods can be assured it will be finished before Christmas, said Councillor Rory Colville.
A report to go before the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and Islands Area Committee on Wednesday said that the site has been surveyed and preliminary design work completed.
The new bridge will be designed for ‘normal traffic loading’ and will allow unrestricted weight over the bridge.
Argyll and Bute Council has already approved the project and set a budget of £150,000 from its capital programme and discussions with landowners are under way.
‘Assuming that there are no difficulties with access to land, Scottish Water and British Telecom relocate their plant timeously, there are no unexpected ground conditions and SEPA provides consent it is anticipated that site works will begin in October and require two to three months to complete. Repairs to the road surface will be undertaken in conjunction with the structural works,’ said the report.
