A COUNCIL committee wants one of its own departments to hurry up and make its mind up about what its plans are for Campbeltown.
At Wednesday’s meeting of the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands Area Committee the members said they want Argyll and Bute’s own Roads and Amenities Services Department to complete its business case for rationalising their operation in Campbeltown including the depot site on Kinloch Road.
The council depot is a key site in the plans for the Kinloch Road area; a lot the plans for the town centre and waterfront regeneration hinge on this in the Outline Business Case which sees Campbeltown competing with other town centres for development cash.
The relocation of the depot would free up land.
Councillor Rory Colville said: ‘It is very disappointing the decision about the Outline Business Case should have been taken in June and now we are looking at October.
‘This is having a detrimental effect on the situation at Kinloch Road; it is important we get the business case for the depot.’
Councillor Colville added that the alignment of the roads was key to the ease of access for heavy vehicles to Campbeltown.
‘We spent £6 million on developing the quay and heavy vehicles have to carry out a very difficult manoeuvre, reverse round and block the traffic.
‘We have this tremendous asset of the quay yet can’t get easy access to it.’
