Tremendous weekend for Tartan Army

CAMPBELTOWN Tartan Army lived up to their reputation by holding another fantastic weekend.

Although Campbeltown lost the final they were still on high spirits entertaining visitors and locals alike at an excellent post tournament dance in the Victoria Hall featuring live music from The Twisted Melons, Violent Echo and Kintyre Schools Pipe Band.

The Association of Tartan Army Clubs formally expressed their thanks the people of Campbeltown for their hospitality this week and spokesman Tam Ferry said: ‘The 2008 ATAC seven-a-sides tournament held on the June 14 was once again a roaring success. From the minute the first of the Tartan Army started to arrive on the Friday, we were made to feel like members of the family not visitors.

‘There was great warmth and hospitality in all the pubs, restaurants and hotels, which was very much appreciated.

‘The football ran like clockwork, the wee tooners chipped in with spare players and teams as needed, and it was all played in great spirit.

‘The dance was nothing short of fantastic and many thanks go to the organisers, the bands and staff for making it a superb night.

‘On the Sunday we left to go home with a heavy heart (and a sore head), with great memories of old pals and our new friends, a big smile on our faces. Thanks to the Wee Toon. We’ll see you soon.’
